The Nürburgring weekend bought mixed fortunes for the Racing Engineering drivers with both Dani Clos and Christian Vietoris being eliminated from the Sprint Race and the Feature Race respectively as a result of other drivers’ actions. However, despite this, both men scored points with Vietoris driving a particularly impressive Sprint Race when, starting 23rd, he finished 4th after a superb drive through the field.
The Hungaroring, like the Nürburgring, is a high-downforce circuit, its tight corners and bumpy surface require careful setting-up of the car as it is not an easy track to overtake on so a good qualifying time is vital to achieving a good race result. Last weekend’s racing was much affected by the changeable conditions including a wet track but the forecast for the Hungaroring is that it is likely to be hot and dry.
Pirelli will be supplying the same soft compound slick tyres that were used at the Nürburgring and arriving at a car set-up that does not cause the tyres to degrade too quickly will be another important part of the weekend strategy for Racing Engineering. Following their recent, very competitive, outings Dani Clos, Christian Vietoris and the whole Racing Engineering team are full of confidence and are looking forward to this weekend. Vietoris in particular has a special affection for the Hungaroring as the young German driver has a very good record at this track having taken two second places at last year’s event. |
