Just two weeks after completing testing at Jerez the GP2 teams will be assembling at Barcelona for another two day post-season test on the 19th and 20th October.
This time Spain’s Racing Engineering team will be running just two drivers; Fabio Leimer, who dominated the Jerez tests, and Nathanaël Berthon.
Fabio Leimer has plenty of GP2 experience having made his debut in the 2009–10 GP2 Asia Series. His first GP2 race win came in the 2010 GP2 Series when he won the Barcelona Sprint Race and, after finishing 5th in the 2010-11 GP2 Asia Series; he won the same race again in the 2011 GP2 Series. A number of consistent race results followed and he finished the season with an excellent second place to race winner, Racing Engineering’s Christian Vietoris, at the final race of the year at Monza. The 21 year-old Swiss was the star of the Jerez testing for Racing Engineering setting the fastest time over the two days of testing and being quickest in three out of the four sessions held.
22 year-old Nathanaël Berthon has come up through the ranks of Formula Renault racing in both the 2-litre and 3.5 litre cars. The young Frenchman already has experience of GP2 having competed with Racing Engineering in the 2011 Asian GP2 Series where he showed a lot of promise despite his unfamiliarity with the GP2 Dallara chassis.
Racing Engineering are continuing to push forward and are already looking to build on their success in the 2011 GP2 Series where they finished 3rd in the Team Championship. |
