The half-way point in the 2013 GP2 Series has arrived, with five race weekends completed there are just five more to come after this weekend’s two races at the Nürburgring. It is two years since the GP2 cars last raced at the German circuit as the German GP alternates annually between here and Hockenheim.
One week ago the Racing Engineering team were competing at Silverstone in what proved to be a weekend of mixed fortunes for the Spanish team. Although Fabio Leimer and Julián Leal took 4th places in the Feature and Sprint races respectively, the team were disappointed not to come away with some podium finishes given the race pace shown by both men. However the Racing Engineering team has been very competitive at each of the preceding five race weekends and the whole team is looking forward to the challenges of the Nürburgring.
Whilst the current 5.148 km circuit is very different from the classic 22.8 km track that was the venue for the German GP up until 1976 it still offers a number of challenges with its combination of corners, some slow and some fast. There are overtaking opportunities on the final turn before the start/finish straight and the following hairpin and, as ever, the setup of the car will be critical to a fast lap. |
