Three days after the 2016 GP2 season ends all the teams will be back in action in Abu Dhabi for the annual post-season test that starts on Wednesday, 30th November and finishes at the end of Friday, 2nd December. We are pleased to reveal that the two drivers who will be running in the Racing Engineering GP2 cars for this three-day test are Switzerland’s Louis Delétraz and Sweden’s Gustav Malja.

Nineteen-year-old Louis is a member of the Renault Sport Academy and has forged a reputation as one of motorsport’s most promising single-seater talents. This is a position he underlined in 2016 as he finished as an impressive runner-up in the Formula V8 3.5 series. He also won the ‘Rookie of the Year’ title in the category after taking 13 wins in 18 races.

Prior to his graduation into Formula V8 3.5, Louis won the 2015 Formula Renault 2.0 NEC title after taking nine wins from 16 races. He also finished as runner-up in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup during the same season, visiting the top step of the podium on three occasions and impressing many with his race craft and mature approach to competition. Louis made his GP2 debut in the final round of the 2016 Series at Abu Dhabi.

Gustav Malja is 21 years old and he began racing in karts in 2006 before moving to single-seaters in the 2011 ADAC Formel Masters and in 2012 he won three races which saw him take the runner-up position at the end of the year.

For 2013 and 2014 Gustav raced in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and Formula Renault 2.0 NEC Championships winning at Hockenheim and the Nürburgring in the latter series and for 2014 the young Swede raced in Formula Renault 3.5 Series where his best results were 2nd at the Nürburgring and 3rd in Hungary.

2016 has been Gustav’s first season in GP2 and he quickly adapted to the new series with two podium finishes when taking third in the Monza Saturday race and second at Spa on Sunday to finish 13th in the Drivers’ Championship.
