Only one week ago the FIA F2 Championship teams were racing at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria and with almost no time to breath the cars and drivers are now at Silverstone for round six of the 2017 F2 Championship. The Red Bull Ring weekend was mostly a disappointment for the Racing Engineering team with neither Louis Delétraz or Gustav Malja able to score any points. However, there were indications that the drivers deserved more than they got as both were able to set some very competitive lap times. It was especially hard for Gustav who was knocked off-track by another car and had to pit to check for damage, after this incident he was consistently one of the fastest cars on track. Louis was also running quickly but a small error cost him time and positions which kept him out of the points.

Silverstone is not an easy track to overtake on, so it will be important that both drivers qualify well and in what, so far, has proved to be a very competitive season every tenth of a second is vital and they will be working closely with their engineers on the set-up of their cars. The British track is hard on tyres due to the fast corners which result in high lateral energy loads which, in turn, leads to high degradation therefore Pirelli will be supplying the P Zero Orange hard tyre together with the Yellow soft compound for the two races. In a change to the usual timetable the Free Practice session will be held on Thursday afternoon.

Facts
1. Silverstone is a racing circuit in England next to the Northamptonshire villages of Silverstone and Whittlebury.

2. The circuit is famous for its high-speed layout, particularly the first half of the lap, which includes some of the finest sequence of corners of any track around the world.

3. The surface is quite bumpy, nowhere more so than under braking for Vale (corner 8), where the uneven surface can unsettle the car.

4. In 2016, Racing Engineering's driver Norman Nato achieved the fastest time of 1:38.216 in the qualifying session.

5. The circuit has four straights and 18 corners, 10 to the right and 8 to the left.

6. Last year, Racing Engineering's driver Jordan King won the sprint race in Silverstone.

7. Tyres are always given a hard time at this track, especially because of the numerous high-speed corners, and this means that Silverstone is among the toughest tracks of the season for tyre wear.

8. As a former airfield, Silverstone is inevitably exposed to the wind and this can have a big impact on a car’s performance.

9. The challenging complex of Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel, a left-right-left-right-left turns, lead cars down to the 770 m Hangar Straight with the right-hander Stowe corner at the end.

10. During the last three years, Racing Engineering has finished on the podium three times at Silverstone.
