From this weekend at Spa Francorchamps and for the rest of the 2017 FIA F2 Championship the Racing Engineering team are delighted to announce that the twenty-two years old Dutch driver Nyck De Vries will be joining the Spanish team.

Nyck has already shown that he is a star of the future, beginning in karting he won the WSK World Series in both 2008 and 2009 before winning the 2010 and 2011 Karting World Championships, a series previously won by current F1 star Max Verstappen. Moving up to single-seaters and competing in Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 series he won the Championship in 2014 as well as taking the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps series in the same year.

For 2015 Nyck raced in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series where he was immediately on the pace winning at Jerez and taking five other podium places to finish 3rd in the standings. Nyck’s next season, 2016, was in GP3 and again it was a very successful year with victories at Monza and Yas Marina which, together with three other podiums saw him in 6th place at the finish.

2017 saw Nyck’s debut in the FIA F2 Championship and he has already shown how quickly he can adapt to a new formula with two third places at Hungary, second at Baku and his first victory at Monaco. Racing Engineering are sure the Nyck will quickly be on the pace and scoring more great results for the Spanish team.

Nyck De Vries:
Perhaps this move is a surprise in the middle of the season, but I am very excited to join Racing Engineering from Spa onwards. We have been in touch since 2015 and it is great to finally get the chance to work together as they have a very high level of professionalism and a great track record. I hope we will be able to turn around their momentum and score the successes they have always had.

Alfonso de Orléans-Borbón, President of Racing Engineering:
We have been closely following Nyck’s progress through the junior categories and have been in close contact for several seasons now, he is an exceptional young man, very professional and dedicated.
The entire Racing Engineering team is excited to see him in our car and with two venues coming up now where we have historically celebrated fantastic results, I am very optimistic that we will see Nyck cross the finish line as one of the first on the track.
